She was the first wife of Philip II of Macedonia. She was the mother of Alexander III (the Great). She was the daughter of Neoptolemus, King of Epirus. During the Great's campaigns, she fought with Antipater, who had been entrusted with the governance of Macedonia, and stayed in Epirus. After the deaths of Alexander and Antipater, she took control of the country as regent for Alexander IV, the Great's surviving son, in 319 BC. In 317 BC, she murdered Philip III Arrhidaeus, the Great's half-brother with a mental disability, and his wife, but was executed after his defeat by Cassander in 316 BC.
