This uprising against class discrimination occurred in the Okayama Domain at the end of the Edo period. In December 1855 (Ansei 2), the Okayama Domain issued a "special notice" limiting the eta's clothing to dyed with tannins or indigo. However, in opposition to this apparent discrimination, 50 discriminated communities in the domain came together the following year to form a general meeting and petition for the notice to be revoked. When the petition was sent back, the struggle escalated into a strong petition led by the komae class, who, ignoring the persuasion of the headman and village officials, took action at the Mushiage camp of the chief retainer Igi Wakasa. There was some conflict within the domain over the eta's petition, but the "special notice" was rendered meaningless, and the goal of the uprising was achieved. However, the leaders were subsequently arrested and punished, and at the same time, county and village officials were also punished for not providing proper guidance. This uprising occurred when the feudal domain attempted to strengthen discrimination against the Burakumin as part of its policy of exploiting the peasants.

江戸末期、岡山藩内で起こった身分差別反対一揆。岡山藩では1855年（安政2）12月に穢多(えた)の衣類を渋染めか藍(あい)染めに限定する「別段御触書(おふれがき)」を出したが、こうした差別の顕在化に反対し、翌年に藩内50の被差別部落が結集して惣寄合(そうよりあい)を結成し、触書の撤回を嘆願した。これが差し戻されると、闘いは小前(こまえ)層を中心とする強訴(ごうそ)へと発展、大庄屋(おおじょうや)や村役人の説得を無視して、家老伊木若狭(いぎわかさ)の虫明(むしあげ)陣屋へと行動を起こした。藩内では穢多からの嘆願書をめぐって対立もあったが、「別段御触書」を空文化することになり、一揆の目的は達せられた。しかし、その後に指導者の検挙と処罰が行われ、同時に郡方役人や村方役人も、その指導が適切でなかったとして処罰を受けた。この一揆は、藩の農民に対する収奪路線の一環として、部落差別を強化しようとしたとき発生したものである。
