Oota Kuroda Ruins

Japanese:
Oota Kuroda Ruins
Located just east of JR Wakayama Station, between Ota and Minamikuroda in Wakayama City, this large settlement site spans the Yayoi and Kofun periods, the Nara and Heian periods, and the Middle Ages and Early Modern Periods. Prior to the land readjustment project, three excavation surveys were conducted from 1968, revealing a settlement from the early Yayoi period measuring 400m east to west and 500m north to south. Remains include pit dwellings, ditches, wells, and burial pits, and a wide variety and quantity of excavated artifacts, including pottery and stone tools. In particular, a bronze bell with a stone tongue is rare and has been excavated from a plain settlement, making it valuable in understanding the relationship between the use of bronze bells and their burial locations.
