[Fruit maturity]
As the fruit ripens and the ovary wall grows, tissue differentiation occurs. In the strict sense, the developed ovary wall is the pericarp. In fruits derived from the inferior ovary, the ovary wall and the developed floral tube can sometimes be distinguished (pear, apple), but in many cases it is not clear, and even if the two can be distinguished, the tissue differentiation of the pericarp, which will be described later, occurs for the entire inferior ovary.
