The name of the capital city of the Western Zhou (→ Zhou) period in China. It is thought to be west of the current city of Xi'an in Shaanxi Province. After defeating the Yin Dynasty, King Wu, the first king of the Western Zhou, moved his capital here from Fengjing, where his father King Wen had established, and this continued until the Western Zhou dynasty moved eastward. It is thought that this refers to the "Zong Zhou" that was called at the time. In recent years, archaeological surveys and excavations have been conducted in search of this site, but the remains of the capital city have not been confirmed.
