On August 29, 1842 (July 24, the 22nd year of the Daoguang Era), the Treaty of Nanking, all 13 articles of which were signed between the Qing Dynasty's Plenipotentiaries Qiying and Yilipu and the British Plenipotentiary H. Pottinger on the British ship Cornwallis. This marked the end of the Opium Wars, and the treaty was ratified in Hong Kong in June of the following year. …
