Jäger, J.

…It was published in Germany in the early 16th century. The author is anonymous, but it is thought to have been Crotus Rubianus (real name Johannes Jäger, c. 1480-c. 1545), a student at the University of Erfurt, or Hutten. The impetus for its publication was the persecution of Jews by the converted Jew Johannes Pfefferkorn (1469-1522/23) and the conflict with the humanist Reuchlin, who sought to preserve Jewish studies and research into ancient documents from an academic point of view.
