… Spanish Baroque differed greatly from region to region, but it was generally recognized that it tended toward lavish ornamentation, reaching its peak in Castile under José-Benito de Churriguera (1665-1725) and the Churrigueras. Their architectural style, Churrigueresco, was carried to its utmost limits by Pedro de Ribera (c. 1683-1742). His San Fernando Hospital (Madrid, construction begun in 1722) is perhaps his most famous work. …
