...Afterwards, as Christianity gained power, palmistry was banished along with astrology, but in the early 13th century, it was brought back to Europe by the Knights Templar who participated in the Crusades, where it took root and was studied by clergymen as well. Famous works include J. Hartlieb's "Palmistry" (1475) and "Illustrated Palmistry of Aristotle" (1490), and Paracelsus also studied palmistry. Famous palmists in modern times include S. D'Arpentigny, A. Desbarolles, and M. Lenormand of France, Cairo of England, and WG Benham of the United States.
