...The pilgrimage to Kaaba, which can be performed by an individual at any time, is called umra and is distinguished from hajj. Those who have performed hajj are allowed to call themselves ḥājj (often called ḥājī in Persian) (Figure 1, Figure 2). After the Battle of Badr in 624, Muhammad made the pilgrimage to Mecca an obligation for Muslims, but the Quran does not specify the method or rituals for the pilgrimage.
