Grand Prince of Kiev. Reigned 912-945. De facto founder of the Rurikid dynasty. In the chronicles, he is listed as the son of Rurik, but the years are too long. He succeeded Grand Prince Oleg and led the Eastern Slavic tribes in the Caucasus in 913 and 943. His invasion of Byzantium in 941 failed due to the Greek Fire attack, but in his second invasion in 944 he signed a treaty with Byzantium regarding Russian envoys and trade, and promised mutual military assistance. He also clashed with the Pechenegs for the first time, and signed a five-year truce.

キエフ大公。在位912‐945年。リューリク朝の事実上の開祖。年代記ではリューリクの子となっているが，年が開きすぎる。大公オレーグの後を継ぎ，東スラブ諸族を従え，913,943年にカフカス遠征。941年のビザンティン遠征は〈ギリシアの火〉に攻められて失敗したが，944年の再遠征でロシアの使節，商行為についてビザンティンと条約を結び，相互軍事援助を約した。またペチェネグ人と初めて衝突し，5年の休戦条約を結んだ。
