...The royal capital, Citadel Izana (now the site of Sambor Prei Kuk, in Kompong Thom province), was a large castle with a large hall where the king could receive audiences and more than 20,000 households, and it is said that there were more than 30 large castles throughout the country. In 639, Babavarman II reigned, and his son Jayavarman I (reigned 657-681) conquered the southern Mekong Delta region and unified the country. However, without a successor, the country soon became divided into warlords, and according to Chinese historical documents, during the Shenlong period (705-706), it split into Shui Zhenla and Lu Zhenla (also known as Wen Dan). ...
