Intersection - highway grade separation

An intersection where two roads, or a road and a railway, intersect at a three-dimensional level. There are two main types: a simple grade separation and an interchange. The former is simply a grade separation where a road and a railway, or two or more roads, intersect, with no connection between them. The latter is a grade separation that has a connecting road (ramps) to allow traffic to connect between the intersecting roads. With the spread of expressways, various types of interchanges have come into existence.

道路と道路、または道路と鉄道とが立体的に交差する交差形式。単純立体交差とインターチェンジの2種類に大別される。前者は、道路と鉄道、あるいは2本以上の道路の交差部を単に立体化しただけで相互に接続のないものである。後者は、交差する道路相互に交通が連絡するための連絡路（ランプramp）をもつ立体交差のことである。高速道路の普及とともに種々の形式のインターチェンジがみられるようになった。
