Coreopsis - Coreopsis

Japanese:
Coreopsis - Coreopsis

A cold-tolerant annual plant of the Asteraceae family. Native to America. The entire plant is hairless. Tall species can grow to over 1 meter, but there are also dwarf species that grow to 15 to 30 centimeters. The leaves are mostly twice pinnately lobed and almost linear. In early summer, flower heads measuring 3 to 4 centimeters in diameter appear at the tips of branched stems. There are 7 to 8 bright yellow ray flowers, with dark reddish brown or purple-brown bases, forming a vivid snake's eye shape. For this reason, it is also known as Janome-sou. It is also called peacock flower, as its vivid flowers resemble peacock feathers. It is extremely strong. It is sown in the fall and allowed to overwinter outdoors, where it will bloom. It is so strong that after one year, it will grow naturally all over the place the next year. Varieties include black-flowered coreopsis, double-leaf coreopsis, and orphaned coreopsis.
