This Shingon Ritsu temple is located in Horen-cho, Nara City. Its correct name is Futaitenpo-rin-ji Temple, commonly known as Narihiradera Temple. The mountain name is Kinryu-san. The principal image is the Bodhisattva Kannon. According to temple legend, this place was originally the Kaya palace of Emperor Heizei, and his grandson Ariwara no Narihira is said to have enshrined a statue of the Bodhisattva Kannon that he had made himself at the command of Emperor Ninmyo and founded the temple in 847 (Jowa 14). In 860 (Jogan 2), Emperor Seiwa donated rice fields to protect the temple. The history of the temple after that is unknown, but the temple grounds contain important national cultural properties such as the main hall, which was built in the early Muromachi period, the south gate (a gabled, four-legged gate) with an inscription dated 1317, and the pagoda, which is believed to have been built around the same time. There are also temple treasures such as a wooden standing statue of Shokannon and statues of the Five Great Wisdom Kings (both national important cultural properties).
