Scheffler, J.

…A mystical religious poet of the German Baroque period. His real name was Johann Scheffler. He studied medicine in various places and became a physician to the court of his home country. During that time, he became familiar with the works of mystics such as Tauler and Boehme, and was rejected by the strict Protestant sect. He converted to Catholicism in 1653.
