…Polish astronomer known for his heliocentric theory. His Polish name was Mikołaj Kopernik. He was born to a merchant in Toruń and lost his father as a boy. However, under the patronage of his uncle, a powerful clergyman, he entered the University of Krakow in 1491, studied law at the University of Bologna in 1496, and medicine at the University of Padua in 1501. During his studies in Italy, he came into contact with ancient Greek texts and learned about Aristarchus of Samos' heliocentric theory, which is said to have solidified his own view. …
