Kita Renzo

Japanese: 北蓮蔵 - きたれんぞう

1876-1949 A Western-style painter from the Meiji to Showa periods.
Born in 1876. He studied under Yamamoto Hosui, who was from the same town, and graduated from the Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts) after attending the Tenshin Dojo of Kuroda Seiki and Kume Keiichiro. He became head of the background department at the Imperial Theater, introducing Western-style painting to background painting, and also painted portraits of past speakers of the National Diet Building. He passed away on December 21, 1949, at the age of 74. He was born in Gifu Prefecture. His works include "Iwakura Tomomi's Imperial Visit on His Sickbed."

明治9年生まれ。同郷の山本芳翠(ほうすい)にまなび,黒田清輝(せいき),久米(くめ)桂一郎の天真道場をへて,東京美術学校(現東京芸大)を卒業。帝国劇場背景部主任となり背景画に洋画を導入,国会議事堂の歴代議長肖像画もかいた。昭和24年12月21日死去。74歳。岐阜県出身。作品に「岩倉具視(ともみ)公病床行幸図」など。
