Schwinger

Japanese: Schwingen
Schwinger

…On this occasion, people dress up in various regional folk costumes, play alpine horns, perform folk dances, and participate in athletic competitions unique to Switzerland. Popular sports include Schwingen, which is very similar to Japanese sumo, stone throwing, in which stones weighing 10 to 40 kg are thrown like a shot put, and Hornuss, which is also called country golf. [Yasukazu Morita] In folk music, the alpine horn, made by hollowing out a fir tree that grows on a slope, and yodeling, which originated as a signaling voice of a cowboy that can be heard from peak to peak, are representative of Switzerland. …

From [Ethnic Sports]

[Europe]
Europe tends to have the impression that it is dominated by international sports, but ethnic sports are also popular in various regions. For example, there is Austrian wrestling (Rangeln) in Salzburg, Schwingen in Switzerland, Cumberland wrestling in Scotland, and glima in Iceland. Other examples related to medieval jousting include the boat joust held in Bavaria, Germany (in which two boats stand on the bow of a ship and compete to stab the other with a long spear as they pass each other, knocking him into the river), and the Austrian barrel-bashing (in which two horses ride and compete to smash barrels with a 40cm iron bar).
