After Constantine II, who ascended to the throne after the death of Pavlos I, dismissed Prime Minister Papandreou (July 1965), social unrest increased rapidly, and in April 1967, Geórgios Papadópoulos (1919- ) and others succeeded in a coup d'état on the grounds that he was blocking the advance of the left wing, and a military dictatorship was established. ...
