A personal observation - Kankenki

This is the general term for all 105 volumes of ancient records and documents, including the diaries of the successive heads of the Saionji family, such as Kinhira, Kinna, Saneto, and Kinfuji. It was originally an alternative name for the "Kumyo Koki," which is the most voluminous of the collection, but it is believed to have later become the name for the whole collection. It is also called the "Saionji Family Records" or the "Saionji Family Generation Records." Among the chronicles, the "Kokoro Koki" was published in 18 volumes from 1283 (Kōan 6) to 1315 (Showa 4), the "Kōmyō Koki" in 30 volumes from 1428 (Shochō 1) to 1459 (Choroku 3), the "Jitsuen Koki" in 8 volumes from 1453 (Kyōtoku 2) to 1482 (Bunmei 14), the "Kōtō Koki" in 8 volumes from 1501 (Bunki 1) to 1510 (Eishō 7), and the "Sanenobu Koki" in 1 volume each from 1522 and 1523 (Taei 2 and 3). Other records include records from other families such as the 'Record of Emperor Toba's Visit to Tsuchimikado Palace' from 1117 (Eikyu 5), records such as the 'Record of Emperor Shirakawa's Visit to Hiyoshi Palace' from 1091 (Kanji 5), as well as a diary of official affairs and a number of other classical documents. In 1942 (Showa 17), it was presented to the Imperial Household Ministry by the Saionji family and is currently kept in the Archives and Mausolea Department of the Imperial Household Agency. In 1939 (Showa 14), the entire collection was reproduced in collotype. There are many other copies in circulation in various places. It is a valuable resource on court etiquette and customs dating from the end of the Heian period to the Muromachi period, as well as information on the court and the shogunate.
