Kimotsuki clan - Kimotsuki uji

Japanese: 肝付氏 - きもつきうじ
Kimotsuki clan - Kimotsuki uji
A powerful clan based in Kimotsuki County, Osumi Province, from the end of the Heian period onwards. The surname is Tomo. According to a family tree, the descendants of Tomo Kanesada, the son-in-law of Taira Suemoto, the founder of Shimazu Manor, spread to the three provinces of Satsuma, Osumi and Hyuga as manor officials of the same manor. The eldest son, Kanetoshi, entered Takayama as the payment agent for Kimotsuki County and took the name of Kimotsuki. The second son and subsequent sons became ancestors of the Hagiwara, Anraku, Izumi and Umekita clans, respectively. After Kanetoshi, the Kimotsuki clan inherited various positions such as payment agent for the west and east, and payment agent for Kishira Village. As non-vassals, they repeatedly argued against the rule of the Shimazu clan and the Hojo (Nagoshi) clan, who were the land lords. Kaneshige (Mimata Hachiro) served as deputy governor for his brother Kanenari, and as guardian of his son Akikane, who succeeded Kanenari, he became head of the clan, and after the fall of the Kamakura shogunate, he played an active role as a powerful military commander on the side of the Southern Court.
