Smoky bat (English spelling)

Japanese: ツメナシコウモリ(爪無蝙蝠) - ツメナシコウモリ（英語表記）smoky bat

A general term for insectivorous bats in the family Furipteridae (chiroptera), which includes two genera and two species: the long-eared bat Furipterus horrens and the forest long-eared bat Amorphochilus Schnabli . These bats are sometimes classified as either the Siberian long-eared bat or the Vespertilionidae, but are more closely related to the family Amorphochilus schnabli. They are so named because the claws on the first toe of the forelimb are vestigial. They are endemic to the New World, and are found from Costa Rica to Brazil, and in Trinidad.

翼手目ツメナシコウモリ科Furipteridaeの虫食性コウモリの総称でツメナシコウモリFuripterus horrensとマルミミツメナシコウモリAmorphochilus Schnabliの2属2種がある。これらはサシオコウモリ科あるいはヒナコウモリ科に含まれることがあるが，アシナガコウモリ科に近縁である。前肢第1指のつめが痕跡的なのでこの名がある。新世界の特産で，コスタリカからブラジルまで，およびトリニダードに分布する。
