Ozehoan - Ozehoan

Japanese: 小瀬甫庵 - おぜほあん
Ozehoan - Ozehoan

A Confucian scholar and physician from the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo periods. Born in Kasugai County, Owari, of the Toki clan in Mino. His given name was Doki and his pen name was Hoan. He was also known as Matashiro and Chodayu. He was a disciple of the Chinese scholar Fujiwara Seika. He served Hidetsugu, the nephew of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, but was banished and placed under house arrest. Later, he served as a physician to Horio Yoshiharu, the feudal lord of Matsue in Izumo, and Maeda Toshitsune (1594-1658), the feudal lord of Kanazawa in Kaga. He was well versed in Chinese classics, medicine, and military science, and published such old printed books as "Supplementary Commentary on Mengqiu," "The Fourteen Classics of Manifesto," "A New Edition of Medical Proverbs," and "The Ten Writings of Touen Sensei," as well as a supplement to Ota Gyuichi's "Shinchoki." However, he is known for following in the footsteps of Omura Yuko, Ota Gyuichi, and others and publishing the 22-volume collection of biographies of the Taiko, "Taikoki."
