Blue mold

Japanese: あおかび病 - あおかびびょう（英語表記）blue mold

This disease is caused by parasitism by Penicillium genus fungi. Infection occurs when the fungus enters through scratches on the surface of the fruit or bulb or through insect bites. In stored mandarin oranges, the surface of the fruit becomes covered in blue powder and rots in round spots. The bulbs of lilies and tulips also show similar symptoms and rot during storage. A similar disease in mandarin oranges is green mold, which is also caused by a species of Penicillium genus. They can be distinguished by the color of the spore masses produced in large quantities on the surface of the fruit, but the symptoms and the environment in which they occur are similar.

アオカビ属菌の寄生によって起こる病気。果実，鱗茎の表面の傷や虫の食痕から菌が入って感染が起こる。貯蔵中のミカンでは果実の表面が青い粉をふいて丸く腐ってくる。またユリやチューリップでも貯蔵中の鱗茎が同じような症状を呈して腐るものがでる。ミカンではこれに似た病気で，やはりアオカビ属菌の1種によって起こるみどりかび病がある。果実表面に多量に生産される胞子集団の色によって区別できるが，病状，発生環境は類似している。
