Ono no Takamura

A Chinese poet and tanka poet of the early Heian period. A descendant of Ono no Imoko, his father was Ono no Minemori, the compiler of the Ryounshu. His family included the calligrapher Tofu and the warrior Yoshifuru. He was appointed as a councilor and was called Yasaisho and Yashoko. He was a man of great sensitivity and genius. When Emperor Saga showed him a part of a passage from the "Collection of Poems by Bai Juyi" (Bai Juyi's poems) with some changes, Bai Juyi changed it to exactly the same as the original poem, or when he read 12 "子" characters in a row as "a kitten of a cat's cub, a lion's cub of a lion's cub," showing his talent, or when the excellence of his poetry led to him becoming the husband of the Minister Fujiwara no Mimori, his talent is conveyed in various forms, though in the form of stories, in "Uji Shui Monogatari," "Jikkinsho," and "Godansho." He also seems to have been very dependent on others, and when he caused trouble and refused to board the ship when a Japanese envoy was sent to Tang China in 838 (Jowa 5), ​​he was exiled to Oki Province (Shimane Prefecture). Very few of his works remain today. Only a few poems remain from the "Keikokushu" and subsequent works, and waka poems from the "Kokin Wakashu" and subsequent works, but the majority of his works seem to have been lost. There is also a family anthology, the "Ono no Takamura Shu," but this is also called the "Takamura Monogatari" or "Takamura Nikki," and is actually thought to have been a work written by a later author based on the tales of Takamura.

平安前期の漢詩人、歌人。小野妹子(いもこ)の子孫で、父は『凌雲(りょううん)集』の撰者(せんじゃ)小野岑守(みねもり)。一族に書家道風(とうふう)や武人好古(よしふる)がいる。参議に任ぜられて、野宰相(やさいしょう)、野相公(やしょうこう)などとよばれた。多感、俊才、あるとき嵯峨(さが)天皇が『白氏文集(はくしもんじゅう)』の一節を一部変えて示したところ、白楽天のもとの詩にまったく同じように改めたとか、「子」の字を12並べたのを、「猫の子の子猫、獅子(しし)の子の子獅子」と読んで頓才(とんさい)を示したとか、詩のすばらしさから、大臣藤原三守(みもり)の婿になれたとか、その才人ぶりは、説話化されてではあるが、『宇治拾遺物語』『十訓抄(じっきんしょう)』『江談抄(ごうだんしょう)』などにさまざまな形で伝えられている。自らをたのむところもまた強かったらしく、838年（承和5）の遣唐使派遣の際には、トラブルを起こして乗船を拒否し、ために隠岐(おき)国（島根県）配流という憂き目にもあっている。現存している作品はきわめて数が少ない。わずかに『経国(けいこく)集』以下に詩文が、『古今和歌集』以下に和歌が残されているにすぎず、大部分は散逸したようである。なお家集として『小野篁集』があるが、これは『篁物語』『篁日記』などともよばれており、実は篁説話を素材とした後人の手になる作品と考えられる。
