Sachs, J. von (English spelling) SachsJvon

…Swiss pastor J. Senebier (1724-1809) proved that CO2 is necessary for the generation of O2 , and Swiss N.T. de Saussure (1767-1845) proved that organic matter is synthesized from CO2 and H2O when light is irradiated on the green parts of a plant. A little later, German plant physiologist and agronomist J. von Sachs (1832-97) conducted a wide range of physiological research on plants, including photosynthesis, and compiled it to become the founder of plant and crop physiology. In relation to photosynthesis, research results that cannot be overlooked in the fields of genetics and breeding are the works of the Englishman C. Darwin (1809-82), especially "On the Origin of Species" and "Variations of Domestic Animals and Plants," and the Austrian G.J. Mendel's (1822-84) "Experiments on Plant Hybridization" using peas as materials. …

...In 1840, the German J. F. von Liebig proposed the inorganic nutrition theory, which stated that plants grow with water, carbon dioxide, and several inorganic salts. In 1860, Julius von Sachs (1832-97) grew plants using hydroponics and demonstrated that plants needed nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulfur, calcium, magnesium, and iron. Furthermore, by 1954, the 20th century had turned to the necessity of trace elements such as copper, zinc, manganese, boron, molybdenum, and chlorine.
