Lake Ozenuma

Japanese: 尾瀬沼 - おぜぬま

A lake in the eastern part of Ozegahara, which straddles Gunma, Fukushima, and Niigata prefectures. The lake surface is 1,665m above sea level. Its long axis is 2.2km, its short axis 1.25km. Its circumference is 6km, and its maximum depth is 8.5m. It is a lava-dammed lake formed by volcanic activity at Hiuchigatake. It is home to char, kokanee salmon, rainbow trout, and smelt. There are colonies of Asian skunk cabbage and other marshland plants on the lakeside, and the lake is also rich in plants, including floating and submerged plants. From this vegetation, it is presumed that the marsh is gradually turning into land and is in the process of becoming a marsh. There are accommodation facilities such as Nagakura hut nearby. It belongs to Oze National Park.

群馬県，福島県，新潟県の3県にまたがる尾瀬ヶ原の東部にある湖。湖面標高 1665m。長径 2.2km，短径 1.25km。周囲 6km。最大水深 8.5m。燧ヶ岳 (ひうちがたけ) の火山活動によってできた溶岩堰止湖。イワナ，ヒメマス，ニジマス，ワカサギなどが生息。湖畔にはミズバショウその他の湿原植物の群落があり，湖中植物も豊富で，浮葉植物，沈水植物がみられる。これらの植生から沼はしだいに陸化が進み，湿原への過程にあると推定される。近くに長蔵小屋その他の宿泊施設がある。尾瀬国立公園に属する。
