Seven lucky things - Oshichikichisamono
A type of puppet theater and kabuki-kyogen. Also called "Yaoya Oshichimono." A general term for works based on Oshichi, the daughter of a greengrocer in Hongo, Edo, who was burned at the stake for arson in the spring of 1683 (Tenwa 3). The story focuses on the innocence of the town girl who becomes reckless because of her love for the handsome temple page Kichisaburo. This incident, which had been widely known through Saikaku's novel "Koshoku Gonin Onna" and "Utasaibun," was first dramatized in January 1706 (Hōei 3) at the Osaka Arashi Sanemon Theater in the kabuki-kyogen "Oshichi Utasaibun."
