A village in Inban County, northwestern Chiba Prefecture. Population 10,178 (1995). Located on a plateau on the north shore of Lake Inban. The Inbanuma reclamation project was completed in 1969, and the area of paddy fields increased. Rice is the main agricultural crop, with vegetables grown in the fields. Surrounded by Lake Inban on three sides, transportation to Sakura and Narita on the opposite shore was inconvenient until the Inba Ohashi and Jinbei Ohashi bridges were opened in the 1960s. Part of the western plateau is included in the Chiba New Town development area, and development is proceeding with the opening of the Hokuso Development Railway. The Seven Buddhas of Yakushi Nyorai at Matsumushi Temple, said to have been founded by the imperial will of Emperor Shomu, and the Yakushido Hall at Senpuku Temple are designated as Important Cultural Properties. 千葉県北西部,印旛郡の村。人口1万0178(1995)。印旛沼北岸の台地上に位置する。1969年に印旛沼干拓事業が完成し,水田面積がふえた。農業の中心は米作で,畑地では野菜が生産される。印旛沼に三方を囲まれ,1960年代に印旛大橋,甚兵衛大橋が開通するまでは対岸の佐倉,成田との交通は不便だった。西部の台地の一部が千葉ニュータウンの開発区域に含まれ,北総開発鉄道の開通とあわせ開発が進められている。聖武天皇の勅願により開創されたといわれる松虫寺の七仏薬師如来,泉福寺の薬師堂は重要文化財に指定されている。
