〘noun〙① A method of purchasing goods in the Middle Ages. It involves buying up goods in advance, then waiting until the price rises due to a shortage, and selling them at a huge profit. It is distinct from forced buying. ※Azuma Kagami - October 17, 1254 (6th year of Kencho) "However, forced buying and accepting purchases are prohibited." ② To buy by force . Oshigai. ※Koyasan documents - June 17, 1271 (8th year of Bun'ei) - A petition signed by the officials of the three villages of Kamino, Shinkuni and Sarukawa "First, the suppression of purchases in the market. The merchants want to make a profit, so it is very inconvenient to solicit orders and suppress purchases."

おし‐がい ‥がひ【押買】

〘名〙 買主が売主の意思に反して、威力で財物などを買い取ること。⇔押し売り。※後日之式条‐仁治三年(1242)正月一五日「一、町押買事 右不上下、一向可止之矣」※御伽草子・鴉鷺合戦物語(室町中)「押がいし濫妨し、ここかしこの田畠に至て苅田狼藉し」
