1537‐1612 German-born Italian mathematician and astronomer. Jesuit priest. He studied at the University of Coimbra in Portugal, and became professor of mathematics at the Collegiate School of Rome in 1565. He was nicknamed "the Euclid of the 16th century." In 1574, he published an edited version of Euclid's Stoicheia in Latin. He also wrote Commentary on the Celestial Spheres of Sacrobosco (1581).
