A Chinese poet of the mid- to late Muromachi period. His secular surname was Hayami. As a Zen monk, he belonged to the Issan school of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism, but after the Onin War, he returned to secular life and based himself in Unuma, Mino Province, where he established his hermitage, Baikamujinzo. He also went by the names Ume-an and Chingan. He is noted for his studies under Zuikei Shuho and Ichige Kenpu, his friendship with monks and writers such as Yokokawa Keizo and Togen Zuisen, the birth of his eldest son Senri Zuiyoku and his second son Hyakuri Tokei, his return to secular life based in Unuma, and his visit to the Kanto region at the invitation of Ota Dokan. His works include the abridgements "Tenkahaku," "Chochukou," and "Gyoufushu," as well as the collection of poems and prose "Baika Mujinzo."
