A general term for birds of the passerine order, family Furnariidae. Widely distributed in Central and South America, with 24 species in Central America (of which 5 are endemic) and about 210 species in South America. These species have adapted to a variety of environments, from coastal reefs to wetlands, farmland, grasslands, forests, and alpine rocks. Total length is about 8-28cm. Sexes are the same color and size, and with the exception of a few species, the chest and abdomen are white or light brown, and the head, back, upper wings, and tail are yellowish brown, brown, or reddish brown, giving the birds an overall brownish color.

スズメ目カマドドリ科Furnariidaeの鳥の総称。中央･南アメリカに広く分布し，中央アメリカに24種(そのうち特産種は5種)，南アメリカに約210種が生息する。これらの種は海岸の岩礁地帯から湿地，農耕地，草地，森林，高山の岩場まで，さまざまな環境に適応している。全長約8～28cm。雌雄は同色同大，少数の種を除き，胸腹部は白色ないし淡褐色，頭上，背，翼上面，尾は黄褐色，褐色，赤褐色などで，全体として褐色のじみな羽色をしている。
