Battle of Ain Jalut - Battle of Ain Jalut
A battle between the Mamluk and Mongol armies that took place on September 3, 1260, in the small village of Ayn Jālūt in Palestine. After conquering Baghdad and Syria, Hulagu Khan then headed south to look for Egypt, but the Mamluk sultan Qutuz led his entire army to fight them off, and thanks to the efforts of Baibars, the Mongol army was defeated and General Kitbuqa was killed in battle. This victory put an end to Mongol invasions into the western Islamic world and elevated the international status of the Mamluk dynasty.
