[Four levels of disease diagnosis]
There are four levels of medical judgment (diagnosis) about a disease, and it is believed that only when all four levels are present can a comprehensive diagnosis be made and a reliable guide to treatment be obtained. These four levels are symptomatic diagnosis (or clinical diagnosis), pathoanatomical diagnosis, causal diagnosis, and functional diagnosis (or pathophysiological diagnosis). A symptomatic diagnosis is made by determining whether a diagnosis matches any previously known and described disease based on the patient's medical history and symptoms, and the doctor's senses (inspection, palpation, auscultation, percussion, etc.) and simple tools (thermometer, blood pressure gauge, stethoscope, etc.) (if there is no match, it is reported and described as a new disease). …
