Sosei-hoshi

Sosei-hoshi
A poet of the mid-Heian period. One of the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets. Son of the monk Hensho. Secular name Yoshimine Harutoshi. After becoming a monk, he lived at Unrin-in and Ryoin-in. He participated in the Kanpei Goji Kokyu Utaawase (Poetry Contest for the Emperor's Wisdom), composed waka poems for Emperor Uda's Miyataki Gokyo in 898, and submitted a folding screen poem for the 40th anniversary of Fujiwara no Sadakuni's birth in 905. His family anthology was the Soseishu, and nearly 65 of his poems have been included in imperial anthologies such as the Kokinshu.

平安時代中期の歌人。三十六歌仙の一人。僧正遍昭 (へんじょう) の子。俗名,良岑玄利 (よしみねのはるとし) 。出家して,雲林院や良因院に住んだ。『寛平御時后宮歌合』に出詠し,昌泰1 (898) 年宇多上皇の宮滝御幸に供奉して和歌を詠み,延喜5 (905) 年藤原定国四十賀の屏風歌を詠進している。家集に『素性集』があり,『古今集』以下の勅撰集に 65首近く入集。
