A former town in Tomata County in northern Okayama Prefecture. Its northern end borders Tottori Prefecture, and most of the area is mountainous, with agriculture and forestry the main industries. The main settlement is Kutashimohara along the upper reaches of the Yoshii River. Further upstream, Okutsu Onsen is famous as one of the three Mimasaka hot springs, with simple spring water at 40-43°C and abundant water. The custom of washing clothes by stomping on the water is popular. Downstream, to Otsuri Onsen, is Okutsu Valley (a scenic spot) with its rock terraces and potholes. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Tomi Village, Kamisaihara Village, and Kagamino Town in Tomata County. 130.83 km2 . 1,825 people (2003). 岡山県北部,苫田(とまた)郡の旧町。北端は鳥取県に接し,大半が山地で農林業が主。主集落は吉井川上流に沿う久田下原(くたしものはら)。さらに上流の奥津温泉は美作(みまさか)三湯の一つとして有名で,単純泉,40〜43℃,湯量が豊富。足踏み洗濯の風習がある。下流の大釣温泉にかけて岩石段丘と甌穴(おうけつ)のみられる奥津渓(名勝)がある。2005年3月苫田郡富村,上齋原村と鏡野町へ編入。130.83km2。1825人(2003)。
