Mount Kosho

Japanese: 古処山 - こしょざん

A mountain in the southern part of the Mikuni Mountains in central Fukuoka Prefecture. It stands on the border between Asakura City and Kama City. It is 860m above sea level. It is made of Paleozoic metamorphic rocks, but the area near the summit is made of limestone and has a karst topography. It is home to a primeval boxwood forest, a nationally designated special natural monument. It has excellent views, and is home to the remains of a medieval mountain castle and the old castle town of Akizuki on the southwestern foot of the mountain. It is part of the Chikugogawa Prefectural Natural Park.

福岡県中部，三郡山地南部の山。朝倉市と嘉麻市の境にそびえる。標高 860m。古生層変成岩からなるが，頂上付近は石灰岩でカルスト地形を呈し，国指定特別天然記念物のツゲ原始林がある。眺望に優れ，中世の山城跡のほか，南西麓に旧城下町の秋月があり，筑後川県立自然公園に属する。
