Poly- p -phenylene terephthalamide (brand name Kevlar) was developed by DuPont, who succeeded in producing a moldable polymer with a high degree of polymerization by improving the polymerization technology of poly- p -phenylenediamine and terephthalic acid chloride, and then established the technology to dissolve it in sulfuric acid and spin it into fibers. It is used in tire cords, making it possible to reduce the number of plies in radial tires for automobiles, helping to reduce the weight of automobiles.
