Japanese: 松島[町] - まつしま

A former town in the northeastern part of Amakusa Kamishima, Amakusa County, Kumamoto Prefecture. It is a mainly hilly rural area, with shrimp farming thriving along the coast. Amakusa Matsushima is located in the north, and tourism has been developing since the construction of the Amakusa Five Bridges. There is a shipping route from Yatsushiro City. In March 2004, it merged with Oyano Town, Himeto Town, and Ryugatake Town in Amakusa County to form Kamiamakusa City. 51.20 ^km2 . 9,305 people (2003).

A town in Miyagi County in the north of Matsushima Bay in central Miyagi Prefecture. The town is centered around the Matsushima Coast and the Takagi area along the Takagi River, and is served by the Tohoku Main Line and the Senseki Line. It is a tourist town with Matsushima and Zuiganji Temple. In addition to seaweed and oyster farming and salmon release, the town also cultivates rice. The town suffered damage in the Great East Japan Earthquake. ^{53.56 km2} . 15,085 people (2010).
