Also written as kugutsu mawashi, kairai shi, etc. It can also refer to a puppet. According to Oe no Masafusa's "Kugutsushi-ki" (Record of the Puppeteers) from the end of the Heian period, they wandered from place to place in groups, the men hunting, performing puppet-twirling, acrobatics, and illusions, and the women singing and prostitution. Later, some became affiliated with temples and shrines and performed puppet-twirling in various places, and a troupe based in Nishinomiya, Settsu, appeared that walked around with Ebisu puppets. This trend in puppet-twirling encouraged the establishment of Bunraku puppet theater, but it continued to exist as street performance until the Edo period in the form of a hanging puppet theater in which a puppet was pulled out of a box worn on the chest and twirled. → Related topics Aobo-juku | Gate-attendance | Miscellaneous arts | Courtesan Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
