...Mexico was the home of director Bunuel's masterpieces, from "Les Forgotten" (1950) in collaboration with the famous cameraman Gabriel Figueroa, to "El" (1952), "Nazarin" (1958), and "The Exterminating Angel" (1962). A unique figure in Mexican cinema after Bunuel who attracted the world's attention was Chilean filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky (1929-), who made "El Topo" (1971), which was called "violent surrealism" in the 1970s. Internationally known actors from Mexico include the beautiful actress Dolores del Rio, who was active in Hollywood, character actor Pedro Armendariz, muscular actress Maria Félix, actress Kati Jurado, who played a unique supporting role, and Cantinflas, who was called "the Mexican Chaplin."...
