Shed - Uwaya (English spelling)

Japanese: 上屋 - うわや（英語表記）shed

It refers to a facility set up at cargo terminals such as wharves, piers, and train stations, used for temporary storage or customs clearance to handle cargo and perform intermediate work. There are two types of sheds: quay sheds and pier sheds, which are located on the pier where import and export cargo is loaded and unloaded, and bonded sheds, which are set up with permission under the Customs Act as a place where foreign cargo can be loaded and unloaded, transported, or temporarily stored. The storage period for both is within one month.

Bonded Warehouse

In addition to bonded warehouses, there are bonded warehouses that have been established with the permission of the Director-General of Customs as places where foreign goods can be stored for long periods (up to two years) without going through import procedures. There are two types of bonded warehouses: private and commercial.

埠頭(ふとう)・桟橋・駅の構内などの貨物発着所に設けられている、荷さばき・中継ぎ作業などを行うため一時保管または通関業務に使用される施設をさす。上屋には、輸出入貨物の船積み・陸揚げをする埠頭上にある埠頭上屋quay shed, pier shedと、関税法上の許可を受け、外国貨物の積卸し、運搬または一時蔵置ができる場所として設けられている保税上屋bonded shedとがあり、その蔵置期間はいずれも1か月以内である。
