Ministry of Finance Printing Bureau

Japanese: 大蔵省印刷局 - おおくらしょういんさつきょく

It originated as the Paper Money Office, which was established within the Ministry of Finance in 1871 (Meiji 4), and was renamed the Paper Money Bureau (headed by Eiichi Shibusawa) in the same year. Initially, it was involved in the manufacture, issuance, and exchange of paper money, but in 1877 it was renamed the Paper Money Bureau, and the following year it was renamed the Ministry of Finance Printing Bureau, and the issuance and exchange work was transferred to the Ministry of Finance, where it has continued to operate as an operating government agency ever since. During that time, it merged with the Dajokan's Printing Bureau in 1875 and began operating a typesetting printing business under the name of the Paper Money Bureau, and in 1898 it was merged with the Cabinet's Official Gazette Bureau and renamed the Cabinet Printing Bureau, and again became the Ministry of Finance Printing Bureau in 1943, and the Printing Bureau in 1949, before becoming the Ministry of Finance Printing Bureau again in 1952, and has remained that way to this day.

1871年(明治4)大蔵省の中に設けられた紙幣司を源とし，同年紙幣寮(紙幣寮の長は渋沢栄一)と改称された。当初は紙幣の製造･発行･交換などを業としたが，77年紙幣局，翌78年大蔵省印刷局と改称され，発行･交換の仕事は大蔵省に移され，以後作業官庁として現在にいたった。その間，75年太政官の印書局と統合して紙幣寮の名称で活版印刷事業も行うようになり，98年内閣の官報局と併合され内閣印刷局と改称，さらに1943年ふたたび大蔵省印刷局，49年印刷庁となったが，52年三たび大蔵省印刷局となって現在にいたっている。
