From the Tale of Jiraiya

...This is a fantastic tale of a righteous thief's brave revenge, inspired by the tale of the thief Garaya, found in the Xie Shi, written by Song Shen Chu in the Chinese Gujin Shuohai, or in the section on Theft, Volume 21 of the Ruisho Sanyo. The first part is about the righteous thief Jiraiya (real name Ogata Shuma Hiroyuki) helping Isami Tomokichirō, the orphaned son of a samurai killed by Guntayu, to kill the wicked thief Rokuyaon Guntayu, who stole and carried the elixir Seitenso and became immortal. In the second part, Jiraiya uses the toad technique he received from a foreigner from Mount Myoka to target the Ishido family, enemies of his master, but the technique is foiled by the schemes of his loyal retainers and the magic of the stone conch shell bestowed by Enoshima Benten, leading to his own destruction.
