[Glossopharyngeal neuralgia]
The glossopharyngeal nerve is the ninth cranial nerve, emerging from the medulla oblongata and controlling the movement of the tongue and pharynx, sensation in the upper pharynx, and taste in the posterior third of the tongue. Glossopharyngeal neuralgia is a severe paroxysmal pain occurring in the pharyngeal tonsils, posterior pharynx, and base of the tongue.
