In 49 BC, all the cities of Cisalpine Gaul were granted Roman citizenship, and in 42 BC, the province was incorporated into Italy. Meanwhile, in the original Gaul, called Gallia Transalpina (Gallia Beyond the Alps), feuds between Gallic tribes in the second half of the 1st century BC led to Roman intervention, and in 121 BC, a province was created in southeastern Gaul, later called Gallia Narbonensis. The rest of Gaul was conquered by Caesar during his Gallic campaign (58-51 BC) (The Gallic Wars). *Some of the terminology that refers to "Gallia Transalpina" is listed below.
