He revolutionized Egyptian archaeology with systematic excavation methods centered on precise surveying, and had a great influence on archaeologists in the early 20th century. This method was introduced to Japan by Hamada Kosaku's activities and writings (General Theory of Archaeology), and Umehara Sueji also studied under him. In Japan, he is often written as Petrie. …
