...It is a word that has been used for a long time from ancient times to modern times, meaning to intervene, interfere, go between, or act as a middleman. In the Middle Ages, it was sometimes used under special circumstances, and phrases such as "kuchiiri kannushi" and "Kanto mikuiri" were born. Kuchiiri kannushi refers to the priest who mediated between the donors and the shrine when the Mikuriya (kitchen) was established at Ise Shrine.
